About Us

WE’RE POLITICAL . . . BUT WE’RE NOT A POLITICAL PARTY

  • Our commitment is to fundamental social change. . .
  • Everyone has a voice in the Women’s Political Alliance.  All of our decisions are made by consensus . . .
  • We actively condemn a foreign policy that does not recognize the sovereignty of all nations, including Native American nations.
  • We believe in the entitlement of all the world’s people to share resources and live on a vital and healthy planet.
  • We are opposed to irresponsible capitalism practiced by major corporations at the expense of workers, migrants, taxpayers, and the environment.
  • We support active participation in fair and accurate elections.  We support publicly funded elections free of corporate or individual money influence.
  • We support the political work of others that is consistent with human values
  • We’re a feminist organization.

WHAT WE WANT

Economic Justice. We are committed to an economic Bill of Rights that will ensure a living wage and the wise use of the world’s economic resources to meet the basic needs of all people for food, shelter and housing. We reject economic arrangements at home and abroad that are based on greed rather than need.

A Healthy Planet with a Diversity of Life.  We are committed to protecting the natural environment and restoring the fertility of the earth.  We are opposed to the genetic engineering of food sources.

Peace and Justice.  In our world, our nation, our neighborhoods, our families

Human Rights.  We demand the strict enforcement of human rights, including personal rights of self expression, the right to speak truth to power, equality before the law, and the rights of full citizenship to all persons.

An Involved Politics.  We are committed to forging a new politics that reaffirms the principles of humanitarianism and participatory democracy

AN AGENDA FOR CHANGING OUR WORLD

  • We call for an end to war, and urge individuals and nations to seek alternatives to war, cultural, and interpersonal violence
  • We support federal legislation guaranteeing government-managed comprehensive health care for everyone.  We support personal choice in all health care matters
  • We support the immediate transition to “green” technologies to save our communities, and our planet.  We support the clean up of toxins in our environment.  We support public control of utilities such as energy, water and other essential resources
  • We speak out and challenge the power and control of corporate capitalism in our lives
  • We support public leaders who demonstrate progressive values and uphold these principles
  • We support publicly-funded education for all citizens through the first two years of college
  • We welcome new immigrants to our community, and support efforts to help them succeed in Minnesota
  • We promote public support for community centers, the arts, and we contribute to ethnic and cultural diversity projects
  • We support the equitable distribution of public and private resources.  We promote public support for and free access to services to the poor—inflicting the comforted and comforting the afflicted
  • We support free and unfettered public access to knowledge, technology, and the information media
  • We encourage citizen involvement on a volunteer basis to improve our community

HOW DO WE GET THE JOB DONE?

We transform by working together with others.

We provide a forum to explore issues and actively seek solutions.

We are responsive without being structured.  Effective change requires an appropriate and effective response to all political contexts.  Our organizational flexibility allows us to act promptly and strategically.

We are attentive to needs expressed by people individually and collectively, and we support their efforts to improve their lives.

We actively educate ourselves on political issues at all levels.  We believe that information informs decisions and actions.  We support the open flow of information.

YOU CAN JOIN US

We call all women of conscience to join us in making our world a better place.  Many things bother us, and there is much to be done.  By listening to the voices of women of all ages and diversity, we can work together to turn anger into productive action.  The Women’s Political Alliance values the commitments of women and encourages your contributions.  Together we can reach out to reinforce the causes and actions and work of other women in the peace and justice community.
